Android 12 Beta 4 made a rather odd change to notifications in landscape mode
Granted, not many of you are interacting with notifications in landscape mode, at least not frequently. If you do, this change may annoy you, well… or it may go the other way around. It’s not necessarily bad, but it just doesn’t seem to make sense. In Android 12 Beta 4, Google changed up the padding to the left and right of items in the notification shade, while in landscape mode. This change will show you less notification content, even though it does look better, aesthetically.
This definitely brings the notification shade in landscape mode closer to it in portrait mode, in terms of size. Still, it may annoy some people when reading longer messages or whatever, as this kind of limits how much text can be shown.
Some of you may even like this change
I mean, even with the way it was before, the text was limited, of course, just not to this degree. It sure is an odd change on Google’s part, though it may be something you’ll like, it all depends. As already said, though, not many people use the notification shade in general while in landscape mode. Still, you may want to check your new notification quickly while watching a video, or playing a game, so… it will impact you in some way. Android 12 stable is expected in the near future. Android 12 Beta 4 was the system stability update, and the last Beta build we’ll get before a stable build arrives. It seems like Google is about ready to release it, so we’re expecting it in the coming weeks. It will land on Google’s Pixel devices first, of course, and then move to other Android phones.
