We all have friends who’ve made more than one Facebook account. This could be for multiple reasons. However, the fact remains that if you make another account, you have to choose another email address, make another password, and leave your old account to wander in the ether of Meta’s servers.
But, Facebook might let you have up to five profiles per account
In a surprising twist, it seems that Facebook might want to change this. For 18 years, the company has only allowed you to have one profile per account. However, according to Bloomberg (via Engadget) a spokesperson at Meta confirmed that Facebook is making some changes to how people use the platform. “To help people tailor their experience based on interests and relationships, we’re testing a way for people to have more than one profile tied to a single Facebook account.” So, people might have the ability to create up to five different profiles for each account. It’s very much like creating different profiles for a service like Netflix. Each account will have its own name, content, recommendations, etc. It will definitely unlock more ways for people to use the platform. For starters, it’s not uncommon for people to have a personal account and one for business. If Facebook adds this feature, you’ll be able to simply make a profile for each one.
There could be a bad side, unfortunately
Having one account with multiple profiles makes things convenient for the user, but it also makes things convenient for hackers. If someone gets a hold of your account information, then they’ll have control of all associated profiles on the app and the web. This means that they will have control over your personal and business account. That’s one thing to think about before making multiple accounts. Right now, we don’t know just how many people the company is testing this on or which countries are involved. Also, we’re unsure when/if Facebook plans on rolling out the test to a broader user base.
