Rather than being a digital wallet to hold your driver’s license or your covid card, Meta Pay will be your payment method while you’re in the metaverse. This is the plan that the company has, and it’s starting down that path.
Facebook will become Meta Wallet
Meta has been doing a lot of work on bringing the metaverse to the mainstream, and it’s been making some progress since the big name change. There’s still a long way to go, but it looks like the company can check one thing off the list. Mark Zuckerberg posted a lengthy Facebook post introducing Meta Pay that explained what it’s all about. It’s like a wallet that you use in the Metaverse. You’ll be able to use the platform to buy all sorts of items in different VR spaces. This includes digital artwork, clothing, and much more. It will be a unified way to buy stuff, so you’ll be able to use it across different services. It will be a one-stop shop to get some shopping done. Meta wants to go beyond having a payment system to buy items. The company also wants you to be able to show ownership of the different items you buy. This means that it wants you to be able to carry the same item with you across different services. It’s comparable to buying a sweater in one store and being able to wear it even when you’re in another store. “Ideally, you should be able to sign into any metaverse experience and everything you’ve bought should be right there.” That’s one thing that Mark Zuckerberg said. We’re not 100% sure on how things are going to go, as there’s still a lot of stuff yet to be realized (both with Meta Pay and the Metaverse, in general). We’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out.
