According to the FCC documentation, this charger has a maximum output power of 5W. Samsung’s Galaxy smartwatches have been charging at 5W speeds for several generations and the company seemingly doesn’t plan to boost that this year either. While we aren’t complaining, it’s worth mentioning here that the Galaxy Watch 5 models will come with bigger batteries than their predecessors. Reports suggest the Pro model will pack a massive 572mAh battery. Samsung is even willing to remove its much-loved rotating physical bezel for the sake of more battery power. But at 5W speed, it could take a bit too long to charge. Perhaps the company could have done better by offering faster charging at least for this model. Nonetheless, the schematic showing the FCC label on the charger suggests it will retain the puck-shaped design that we have been seeing for the past few years. It keeps the watch flat on its surface while wirelessly charging it. Samsung upgraded to this design from a vertical charging dock a few years back.
Galaxy Watch 5 passes another hurdle ahead of launch
This FCC certification is another indication that Samsung is nearing the launch of the Galaxy Watch 5 series. Well, the new smartwatches are still at least a couple of months away, with the official unveiling expected sometime in August or latest by September. In the meantime, we expect to hear a lot more about the wearables. Multiple leaks in the past have already revealed a great deal of information about the Galaxy Watch 5 series. Along with bigger batteries, the new models will also bring a more durable design, faster processors, new health features, and improved software. Alas, speedier charging would have sweetened the pot a bit more. The Galaxy Watch 5 series should be accompanied by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable smartphones at the company’s Unpacked event later this year. The two foldables have also been subject to numerous leaks in recent weeks. And as we move closer to their launch, we expect the leaks to keep piling up. We will keep you posted accordingly.
