The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra first picked up the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in Europe last week. A few days later, Samsung paused the update for the former two while the latter continued receiving it. The company didn’t specify any reason for the pause, but it appears everything is fine now. The firm is widely rolling out the new security patch to all three of its latest flagships. In the US, the September SMR comes with firmware version S90U1UES2AVHL. Unlocked units on all major wireless carriers are receiving the update, including AT&T, Comcast, and Xfinity Mobile, SamMobile reports. The rollout for carrier-locked units should also be just around the corner. Meanwhile, outside of the US, this month’s security update for the Galaxy S22 trio is also rolling in Asia, Africa, and other regions. The updated firmware version in those regions is S90EXXS2AVHD. Samsung doesn’t seem to be shipping any notable new feature to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra with this update. And that was expected. The phones recently picked up the One UI 4.1.1 update with a handful of new features, including the ability to extract text from images. The company is also beta testing Android 13-based One UI 5.0 for the trio. So a lot is coming to the phones soon. For the time being, we need to be content with vulnerability fixes.
September security update reaches Galaxy S22 phones in the US
Samsung last week published its updated monthly security bulletin for September. The company mentioned patches for over 50 flaws. Some of those were Android OS issues and were patched accordingly by Google. But the Korean firm also patched several privacy and security flaws specific to its devices. A lot of those were high-severity issues, with affected devices components including Photo Editor, Video Editor, System UI, and more. All of these fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy S22 trio in the US, Asia, Africa, and other markets. If you’re using any of the three models, watch out for a notification in the coming days. You can also navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install to manually check for OTA (over the air) updates.
