The Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 are getting the “Pro analog” and “Gradient number” watch faces with this update. The former is the default watch face for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, while the latter is the default watch face for the 40mm Galaxy Watch 5 (both pictured below). These watch faces have already rolled out to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The changelog also mentions some Samsung Health improvements for the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2. Samsung has updated Daily Activity Indicator to better sync health data from the phone with the watch. The watches are also getting snore detection with a recording feature. It uses your phone’s microphone to record audio if you snore while asleep. The feature relies on the watch sensors to monitor your sleep and detect snoring. On the Wear OS-powered Galaxy Watch 5 series, the wearable itself can record your snoring.
Samsung has promised more updates for the Galaxy Watch 3 and Active 2
This is the first major update for the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 in almost a year, since November 2021. The update doesn’t bump the Tizen OS version. It’s still Tizen 5.5.0.2, which rolled out to these Samsung smartwatches between January and February last year. Now that the company has stopped making Tizen-based smartwatches and switched to Wear OS, it’s unlikely to release another major Tizen version. However, Samsung isn’t leaving the watches unattended. This update shows that the company is committed to providing the software support the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 deserve. And there’s more on the way. Earlier this month, Samsung announced that these two models will get the Samsung Health Monitor app to measure blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) in 24 additional markets.
