Samsung actually claims it’s 4x larger, though the math doesn’t really add up. In the next paragraph you’ll be able to see why.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 offers a considerably larger cover display compared to its predecessor(s)
The device features a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED display. That display offers a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels, which results in a 302 PPI. The Galaxy Z Flip, and Z Flip 5G, included a 1.1-inch 112 x 300 Super AMOLED cover display. That’s not exactly 4x larger, not even close, but it is considerably larger. So, not only is that display considerably larger, but it offers higher resolution as well. Because of it, you’ll be able to do much more with it. That extra size will definitely impact its usability, not to mention that it will be far easier to read notifications. What else will it allow you to do? Well, quite a few things, actually. You’ll be able to quickly glance over your schedule without opening the device, and also check the weather, for example.
That secondary display will be able to utilize ‘Cover Screen widgets’
From the health perspective, that display will also let you know how many steps you’ve made in a current day. All of that will be available via brand new Cover Screen widgets. That’s not all. You’ll actually be able to pair up the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 with the Watch 4, and coordinate the Cover Screen wallpaper with the watch. That way you can get a matching look without setting up both devices separately. For some, the best feature of the cover display may be the integrated Samsung Pay functionality. You’ll be able to check out without using the phone’s main display. We’re not sure if this will apply to Google Pay, though, or just Samsung Pay. That’s more or less everything Samsung shared about the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s cover display. We’ll be able to test out these features soon, and see what else it has to offer.
