GM was pretty light on details for these two. But it looks like it’ll be similar to the Blazer and Equinox that are already out, just electrified. That’s something we’re seeing a lot of carmakers doing these days, as they transition to 100% EV. The Chevy Equinox EV is expected to sell for around $30,000. No word yet on the Blazer EV, but we’d expect a similar price. Currently, the Equinox starts at $25,800 and the Blazer starts at $28,800. So going electric wouldn’t raise prices too much. While it’s not confirmed, it does look like these both will run on Android Automotive too. Which is part of GM’s new Ultifi software platform. Both will also have GM Super Cruise, based on the images that GM has shared.
GM now has six EV models coming in the next couple of years
GM isn’t new to the world of electric vehicles. Having launched its first EV back in 2017 (announced in 2016 though), the Bolt EV. But, it hasn’t been a smooth path for GM. After having to deal with recalling every single Bolt EV ever made last year, due to the batteries potentially catching fire. Now they are in the process of replacing every Bolt battery on the market. But in 2022 and beyond, we now have the Cadillac Lyriq, Hummer EV (pickup and SUV), the Silverado EV, along with the new Blazer EV and Equinox EV. If you count the different versions of these models, there’s a lot more than just six. For instance, the Bolt is available as an EV and EUV. It’s all part of General Motors $35 billion push to go all-electric by 2040. So we’d expect to see many more EV announcements from them in the coming years.
