The Google Pixel 5a disassembly reveals it’s not exactly easy to repair
The video that PBKreviews shared has a duration of around 8 minutes. In it, you’ll see a full teardown of the phone. After which, you can also see it being assembled again, in case you need that information as well. The first thing you’ll need to do if you’re planning to disassemble this thing is to remove the SIM tray, and its display. You’ll need a heat gun, and a pry tool in order to remove the display. Once you do that, you’ll need to disconnect it. Following that, there’s a large graphene film covering the phone’s battery, and some of the device’s internals. You’ll need alcohol to remove the mainboard, cameras, and the battery, by the way. For all the details, check out the video embedded below. Now, after the teardown, the source said that the display is easy to replace. So, if that’s the issue that you end up having, it should be fairly easy.
The device got a repairability score 5/10
Other than that, things do get a bit more complicated than they should. PBKreviews gave the Pixel 5a 5G a repairability score of 5/10, which is not great, needless to say. The Pixel 4a and 4a 5G were amongst the best mid-range smartphones last year, and they still are. They’re very easy to recommend to consumers, as they offer really good performance, and don’t cost all that much. Something similar can be said for the Pixel 5a 5G. This handset is very similar to the Pixel 4a 5G, in a number of ways. It does offer a better build, and a considerably larger battery, though. So, Google did improve things this time around. If you’re looking for a mid-range handset to get, the Pixel 5a 5G is definitely worth considering.
