Just to be clear, there’s no single option that you can tap and all spam will be blocked, of course. You can, however, change some settings, and basically block spam altogether by doing so. We’ll show you how to do this on Android, though the procedure on iOS is about the same. So, if you’re using Telegram, and you’re annoyed by all the spam messages and invites you’re getting, read on.
How to block spam on Telegram
The first thing you need to do is fire up the app, of course. Once you’ve done that, tap on the hamburger menu icon in the top-left corner of the display.
Once the side menu opens, you’ll need to navigate to “Settings”.
A new menu will open, with a bunch of options. The settings we’re looking at are located in the “Privacy and Security” menu. Navigate there.
Here you’ll see quite a few options in the “Privacy” section, and that’s what we’re looking for. So, what can you do to basically block spam? Well, all seven options in this section can aid our cause, to be quite honest, some more than others.
First and foremost, you can manually block specific contacts. If any single contact is annoying you, and spamming you, simply tap on the “Blocked Users” option, and you’ll see the menu below. Tap “Block user” and block whoever is annoying you.
Now, for the rest of the options, you can simply change them all to “My Contacts”. Those options include Phone Number, Last Seen & Online, Profile Photos, Forwarded Messages, Calls, and Groups.
What will this do? Well, for example, if you set “Groups” to “My Contacts”, nobody outside of your contacts will be able to add you to a group. Adding to various groups by third-party contacts is one of the worst ways to spam people.
Every single one of those options contains an explanation when you enter their respective menus, so you’ll know exactly what you’re doing. We do advise you to set at least “Groups”, “Calls”, and “Phone Number” to “My Contacts” options. The latter is probably set already, but if it isn’t, make sure to change it. There you have it. Changing these settings will essentially block spam from coming your way. If someone from your contacts is annoying you, simply remove that person, or block it.
