You can’t exactly fully disable comments on your posts, but you can limit comments to friends or friends of friends. Do note that this goes only for ‘Public’ posts, though. On the flip side, if we’re talking about Facebook Group comments, then you can completely disable them, but only if you’re the admin of that Facebook Group, of course. In this particular case, we’re talking about personal posts, not Facebook groups.

How to limit Facebook post comments for all public posts

In order to limit Facebook post comments for all public posts at once, you’ll need to access the settings. Navigate to Facebook.com on your personal computer, log in, and let’s get started. The first thing you’ll need to do is tap the downward-facing arrow in the top-right corner.

Once you do that, a pop-up menu will appear, and you’ll see the ‘Settings & Privacy’ option. Click it.

Once you do that, a new menu will open, with the ‘Settings’ option, which we’re after.

Then, a whole new page will appear, with a bunch of new options. You’ll want to find the ‘Public Posts’ menu, which is located on the left side of the display.

Once you choose that option, a ‘Public Post Filters and Tools’ menu will open. In this menu, you’ll see the ‘Who can Follow Me’ option. No matter what is set here, you’ll be able to choose settings for your public posts (though if it’s set to ‘Friends’, nobody else will be able to follow you’. Simply go to the ‘Public Post Comments’ below for the next step. You’ll need to click this option to get to a new menu.

An expanded menu will open, and you’ll be able to choose who can comment on your public posts. You’ll see a drop-down menu at the bottom, click it.

You’ll be able to choose between ‘Public’, ‘Friends’, and ‘Friends of Friends’. With the first option, anyone will be able to comment, while the last two are also self-explanatory.

How to limit Facebook post comments for individual public posts

If your aim is to limit Facebook comments on a per-post basis, well, you can do that too. Simply find one of your public posts on Facebook, and click the three dots in the top-right corner.

Once the pop-up menu appears, choose the ‘Who can comment on your post’ option.

You’ll be presented with three options, ‘Public’, ‘Friends’, and ‘Profiles and Pages you mention’. These are all self-explanatory, and based on your preference, only select people will be able to comment on that specific post. So, if you choose ‘Friends’, only people from your Friends list will be able to do so.
