While the smartphone came with all the bells and whistles, you would expect from a flagship smartphone, it came with something which wasn’t common a couple of years ago. Nokia 9 PureView came with a Penta-camera setup or five rear cameras, which were housed in a unique rear housing. It contained five 12MP Zeiss optics lenses, capable of shooting 4K at 30fps. HMD Global, the parent company for Nokia, also managed to be among the top brands when it came to rolling out the latest software updates for its devices. Nokia promised to provide two years of timely updates for all of its devices since HMD Global took over. However, there is one exception to this promise. That is the Nokia 9 PureView. Sadly, users of Nokia 9 PureView won’t be getting the taste of the Android 11 update. Although Android 11 should’ve arrived for Nokia 9 PureView in Q3 2021, the company decided against this policy.
Nokia quotes incompatibilities between the camera and software for not serving Android 11
According to the latest report by Phone Arena (via NokiaMob), the company quotes a surprising reason for not pushing the Android 11 update for Nokia 9 PureView. As per the company’s official message, incompatibilities between the camera and software are the reason, HMD Global has decided not to serve the device with its promised Android 11 OS update. HMD Global says, “incompatibilities between the camera and software would heavily detract from the user experience, which would not meet our high standards.” Well, as mentioned, this is pretty surprising. Because there are other brands that have updated their 2019 smartphones to Android 11, with no problems. HMD Global further added that though Android 11 won’t be coming to Nokia 9 PureView, it will continue to get regular security updates. The reality is no one cares about regular security updates compared to Android OS updates. Moreover, the company should have delivered what it promised. Thankfully, there is a bit of consolation on offer. For Nokia 9 PureView users who wish to enjoy Android 11, they will receive a 50% discount on Nokia XR20 or any other X-series smartphones. Do note that it is subject to regional availability. So, if you want to stick to Nokia but enjoy the Android 11 OS, you should take advantage of this 50% discount and get yourself a Nokia X20 for good camera performance. Else, you can opt for Nokia XR20, if you are looking for a durable and good phone.
