As the name suggests, the OnePlus 9 RT will be an upgraded ‘T’ version of the OnePlus 9R. Back in the day, OnePlus used to launch ‘T’ upgrades of all its latest flagships. But it stopped doing so since last year when it only launched the OnePlus 8T and scrapped the 8T Pro. The store will likely be the same this year as well, with only the 9R getting a ‘T’ version. The OnePlus 9R is the lowest-end model of the new trio and essentially a OnePlus 8T with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset (the original 8T used Snapdragon 865). And, unfortunately, its upgraded ‘T’ version will not get any further upgrades in this regard. It will keep the Snapdragon 870 SoC, so no Snapdragon 888 here. The upcoming OnePlus flagship will also feature the same 120Hz AMOLED panel that comes in at 6.55 inches diagonal. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and is HDR10+ capable. You’re also getting the same 4500 mAh battery with 65W fast charging. The OnePlus 9 RT though gets a notable camera upgrade. The 48-megapixel primary shooter is being replaced with Sony’s 50-megapixel IMX766 sensor. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro used this sensor as the ultrawide camera but it served as the main shooter in the OnePlus Nord 2 mid-ranger. The upcoming model will also use this Sony sensor as the main camera. Apart from this, the OnePlus 9 RT will also run Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 out of the box. It will be the first OnePlus phone to ship with the latest iteration of Android OS. The rest of the specs and features could largely remain unchanged from the OnePlus 9R.
OnePlus 9 RT price and availability
Unfortunately, like many other OnePlus phones, the upcoming OnePlus 9 RT reportedly will not come to the US. It’s not even coming to Europe. According to the report, the phone will be available in China and India only, at least that’s what the current plans are. The regular 9R also saw a limited release, so it’s likely a well-thought strategy from the company. If you look at recent history, OnePlus is only launching its high-end flagships and budget offerings in the US. Everything in between, they never arrive stateside. As for the pricing of the OnePlus 9 RT, there’s no word on it yet. The regular 9R starts at ₹39,999 (approx. $540) in India. You can expect the upgraded version to come in at under $600 as well.
