The Pixel Fold may not launch at Google I/O, it could arrive in October
This info comes from The Elec, a South Korean publication. The report says that Google is sourcing panels from Samsung Display, 7.57-inch and 5.78-inch panels. Those two displays will be used as main and cover panels on the Pixel Fold, of course. That being said, the report also mentions that those two panels won’t be ready in time for the Google I/O launch. In fact, Samsung Display plans to start mass production in July or August this year. Needless to say, that doesn’t fit with the reported Pixel Fold launch timeline. What could happen, however, with this timeline in mind, is for the Pixel Fold to launch at the same time as the Pixel 8 series. In other words, the phone may arrive in October this year. What is strange is that Jon Prosser, a well-known tipster, reported that the phone is coming in May. Truth be said, he did have early info on the matter, and plans change, so… perhaps things changed in the meantime.
Its CAD-based renders already surfaced
Based on the CAD renders provided by @OnLeaks, Google may be drawing inspiration from OPPO. The Pixel Fold actually looks somewhat similar to the OPPO Find N and N2. It has that aspect ratio, which is more landscape than portrait when unfolded, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Thanks to the rear camera island, it is obvious the phone is related to the Pixel 7 Pro. The main display won’t have a display camera hole, as the camera will be included in the top bezel. The cover display will have a hole punch. The Google Tensor G2 is expected to be included in the device, though it’s even possible that the G3 ends up being used. If the device does launch alongside the Pixel 8 series, it’s possible it will come with Google’s next-gen chip, we’ll see. If you’d like to know more about the Pixel Fold, check out our preview.
