One UI 5.1 testing is underway as Samsung prepares for the Galaxy S23 launch
Samsung usually launches new flagships with a new version of its One UI skin. The Galaxy S22 series debuted One UI 4.1, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 ran One UI 4.1.1 out of the box. The latest version is One UI 5.0, which is its first custom software based on Android 13. This version is already available for more than 60 Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy S23 series should now arrive with One UI 5.1 in a few weeks. It will be still based on Android 13, as Android 14 is months away. But we should see a few new features from Samsung’s side. Unfortunately, there isn’t much information available about what additional goodies One UI 5.1 will bring. The company did mention it in a press release announcing One UI 5.0 in October. It said the new One UI version will bring more lock screen customization options. Samsung has already added several new customization options to Galaxy devices with One UI 5.0. It appears to be readying more of those. That shouldn’t be the only addition, though. One UI 5.1 should contain more goodies. Samsung hasn’t baked Android 13’s new media player notification widget into One UI 5.0. Maybe the upcoming version will bring it. Predictive Back Gesture, which will be a default feature of Android 14, could be part of the new One UI version as well. Samsung has often introduced new Android features ahead of Google, and we wouldn’t be surprised if One UI 5.1 contains one or two Android 14 features. Stay tuned to learn more about the upcoming One UI update.
The new One UI version should reach more Galaxy devices
If history is any indication, One UI 5.1 should reach other Galaxy devices soon after the Galaxy S23 trio arrive on the market. As said earlier, the testing for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra is already underway. The updated firmware version is S90*EXXU2CVL7 (via). Samsung would be looking to iron out bugs and other flaws with this internal testing before the Galaxy S23 launch. We will let you know when One UI 5.1 starts rolling out to other eligible Galaxy models.
