Snapchat is partnering with major news publications from the USA, France, UK, and India to curate stories on the platform using RSS feeds. Now, there are over 40 publications involved with this. They include The New York Post, Insider, The Washington Post, The Wallstreet Journal, TMZ, CNN, ESPN, Axios, Vice, etc. As for the European publications, there is a respectable list. There are The Mirror and The Independent (UK), Foot Mercato, Gala, Le Figaro, Marie Claire, and Paris Match (French), and MissMalini, GQ India (India). Down the line, we’ll see more publications join the list.
How will these Snapchat news stories be displayed?
Now, these stories won’t be as colorful or charismatic as the Stories you’re used to seeing on the platform. These aren’t meant to really impress. They’re meant to give you the gist of the story with a short passage from it. When you tap on the story, you’ll see the featured image up top with the text at the bottom. The text isn’t really long; it’s meant to wrap up the story so you can be on your way. This method might not sit with some people, but it makes sense. If you’re on social media (especially one as picture/video-heavy as Snapchat), you’re not looking to read a whole article. If you happen upon an article that seems interesting, you’ll be able to get the main details from it and move on.
Where do you find them?
There are two places you can find these news stories on Snapchat. First, when you open up the app, swipe down to access your “Happening Now” feed. You’ll see the collection of news stories. Also, you can see them in the Discover feed when you swipe left on the main screen. Right now, there isn’t a video aspect to the stories, but we don’t know if that will be added later.
