These Galaxy S22 camera features are coming to older Galaxy phones
According to a moderator on Samsung’s community forums in South Korea, four Galaxy S22-exclusive camera features will be making their way into other devices in the coming weeks (via). Some of those features will reach only select recent models while some others will roll out to a lot more of them. Let us see which device will get what new feature.
Improved night portrait
The Galaxy S22 phones can capture bright portrait shots in dark environments. You can even use the telephoto lens in Portrait mode. This ability is coming to the Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, and Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Improved auto framing
The auto framing feature was introduced on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 last year. It enables you to capture the best shot by automatically zooming in or out depending on the position of the subject. It can recognize up to ten people at a distance of up to five meters. Samsung improved the functionality with the Galaxy S22 series and is now rolling it out to the Fold 3 and Flip 3 as well as the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Galaxy Z Flip LTE/5G.
New video call features
Samsung has developed several video call effects that work across all popular video calling apps, including Google Meet, KakaoTalk, Knox Meeting, Facebook Messenger, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, and Zoom. Those effects will roll out to a wide range of devices in the coming months. The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip LTE/5G, and Galaxy S20 FE will get the update by the end of May. These phones (except Galaxy S20 FE) will only get virtual backgrounds and auto-framing during video calls. The likes of the Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S10 Lite, and Galaxy Note 10 Lite, meanwhile, will only get video call effects. They may have to wait until June for the update.
Third-party camera app improvements
All smartphones come with software optimizations that improve the quality of pictures taken with the stock camera app. But Samsung wants to take things further and let you take advantage of its image quality optimization technology in third-party apps as well, including social media apps. The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will get this ability.
The update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S21 series
The rollout of these new camera features has begun for the Galaxy S21 series in South Korea. It should soon reach other markets too. Samsung expects to complete the rollout for all compatible devices in the first half of 2022. We will keep you posted.
