With Android 12, you also get a single tile titled “Internet” for controlling Wi-Fi and mobile data. Many users weren’t happy with this change, because it adds one extra step to toggle on/off Wi-Fi or mobile data. Sony’s latest Android 12 update, seems to agree with such users. As spotted by Redditor /uChiron_89 (via XDA Developers), Sony’s Android 12 update brings separate tiles for Wi-Fi and mobile data under the Quick Settings toggle. For the unaware, the Android 12 update started rolling out for the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III recently. Apparently, the UI of Sony’s skin is very similar to Android UI. You will notice one change though, that the Wi-Fi and mobile data toggles have been separated out. Especially, with the Android 12 update for the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III that recently rolled out. It basically, does not include them inside a single “Internet” toggle, as introduced with the Android 12 update. This could very well make Sony fans running Android 12 updates on their Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III happy. As they don’t have to go through an extra step simply to toggle their internet.
You can factory reset your phone to enable these separate Wi-Fi and mobile data toggles
The user also brought to light one issue with these toggles. Notably, these Wi-Fi and mobile data toggles aren’t accessible. In order to enable and use them, you need to factory reset your phone. So, if you have received the latest Android 12 update on your Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III phones, and do not see the separate toggles working, then you can try factory resetting your phone. Those with Pixel devices or with devices running AOSP custom ROMs can also restore separate Wi-Fi and mobile data toggles by following a simple ADB workaround, as mentioned by XDA. To be exact, the Android 12 update for the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III that introduced these separate toggles arrives with firmware version 61.1.A.1.149. The update does bring the December 2021 security update along with other features to the table. For instance, the new Material You design with dynamic theming, new Quick Settings toggles, and other UI elements. If you haven’t received the update, then you can manually check for it under the Settings menu. Besides, Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III users can thank their brand for not adamantly following Android 12’s changes, at least for the time being. It will probably be fixed with future updates, but that is just us guessing, and we would advise you to take this information with a pinch of salt.
