Back in Spring of 2020, Google announced that it was discontinuing Google Play Music and moving everyone over to YouTube Music. The news did not strike well with most people, as they had become accustomed to using the former service. Regardless, by the end of 2020, the service was 6 feet under, and users needed to adjust to using YouTube Music.
You’ll be able to save your queue as a playlist in YouTube Music
A lot of people still have an issue with YouTube Music because, though Google claims that the experience is 1-to-1, there are some rather annoying differences and missing features. Well, one useful feature just made its way over from Google Play Music. When you play an album, YouTube Music populates a queue of tracks for you. It’s like a temporary playlist that deletes itself when you play another album or playlist. You’re able to edit that queue by adding or taking away songs. People like to go through and build up a custom queue for short-term listening. However, what if the person wants to save that perfectly pruned queue to listen to again? Well, you could back in the Google Play Music days, and now, you can do it with YouTube Music. Well, you can now if you’re an Android user, as the feature was available on iOS devices back in January. That, however, should come as no surprise.
How to save the queue as a playlist
When you’re done finetuning your latest and greatest queue, you’ll be able to save it with just a few easy steps. First off, you’ll need to know that this feature is still rolling out, so it’s possible that you won’t have it. Search up the YouTube Music app in the Google play store. Update the app to the latest version if you have the ability. If you updated it, but you don’t have the feature, then you’ll want to wait a few days. Go to a song in your queue and have it fill the screen. On the bottom bar (the one that says Up Next, Lyrics, and Related) and swipe up. You’ll see your queue in playlist form. Above the top track, you should see a pill-shaped button with the word “Save” in it. Tapping it will take you to the familiar “add to playlist” function. From there, you can create a new playlist or add the queue to an existing playlist.
